Also! (Not so) Fun fact about The Star-Spangled Banner: Francis Scott Key, the poet who wrote the poem that was later set to music, was a DIE HARD anti-abolishionist. The poem was adopted as the American national anthem in 1931, having been set to music by Key's brother-in-law. In America during the 1920s and 1930s, the homegrown American white nationalist terrorist organization Ku Klux Klan was ascendant. Sorta makes you wonder if the people who pushed for the musical arrangement of Key's poem were aware of his tie to anti-abolishment activities and chose it to serve as a dagger to the targets of the KKK. In the 1930s, remember, the Civil War, Abolishment, and (failed) Reconstruction was still within the living memory. Anyways, so there you go. I haven't been able to enjoy the anthem since learning how horrible Francis Scott Key was, and the historical context behind its adoption as the American anthem.
