I’m fascinated that the “fertility rates are dropping below replacement so humanity is doomed” folks seem to have learned literally nothing from the “population growth will soon overwhelm and destroy the planet” folks *who are mostly still around and enjoyed prominence just a few decades ago*.

My opinion on birth rates is that no one should have an opinion on birth rates. People should be free and empowered to have exactly as many children as they desire to have. Fussing over birth rates is biopolitics verging on fascism. And it’s even sillier when you consider how atrocious we are at anticipating fertility rates even in the near future or their effects on society.
