Reasons I feel a bit Cassandra-ish, part 94: Saying for about 20 years that PostgreSQL is the best SQL DB for most use cases. The rest of the world I think finally started agreeing after it became easily available in Azure. Circa 2015 I took over running an AWS-hosted system which had been designed to use two RDS databases, one MySQL, for the majority of the data, and one PostgreSQL with PostGIS, for one single query that mapped position coordinates to timezone. And most of the devs my team were taking over from... didn't really even understand what PostgreSQL *was*, or why they were using it, other than it being a magic box for this one TZ query. Certainly they had no idea they could have consolidated on a single RDS for everything by dropping MySQL. (Partly that was because That One Query was written *really, really* badly: when I took over, it was the biggest bottleneck in the system. After I touched it, that query sped up like x20)
