Most of the classic English/British children's stories are products of the intelligence community ("Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" by Iam Fleming, for example). There are proponents of the idea that only the culture created by the proletariat is real culture and everything produced by the mainstream is propaganda and/or exploitation. John Berger and (personal favourite) Jonathan Meades go into the nature of Art and Media.
