Do you have a favorite book on Chinese history, politics, media, or culture that: - is available in English - is not written from a US centric or Western centric POV - is not imperialist propaganda? - is approachable by a casual audience? I'm specifically looking for studies on Chinese literature, but also just generally looking to learn more about China and the culture and people of China with a minimal amount of the kind of hangups that come with most books about China available in the US.
