Every time a journalist comes to me with a story like this one, they say something along the lines of "At least it's good that they're catching the bad apples on the force that abuse the technology right?" and I have to point out that only a tiny fraction of abuse ever leads to consequences. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/07/police-losing-jobs-flock-cameras-alprs/

@evacide@hachyderm.io It's clear how many people have never really met cops, that they fail to understand just for egregious one's behavior needs to be before they get reported by their fellow officers.

@evacide@hachyderm.io I feel like every non-monopoly business that I've ever dealt with had a guideline that only about 1% of people actually report problems, so everything is about a hundred times worse than it sounds. And I'd be shocked if that magically didn't apply to police misconduct, especially knowing how pervasive stalking was BEFORE Flock.
