Let's lovingly pick on Vivaldi for a moment. Vivaldi Browser is my web browser of choice. In my opinion, it is everything Mozilla Firefox once promised it would be, but unlike Mozilla, Vivaldi delivers. It's an awesome web browser, and I recommend it. Vivaldi is under U.S. jurisdiction, and they don't hide that fact. They have an office right here in my home state of Massachusetts with fewer than 10 employees. But again, they do not hide that fact. They're not promoting themselves as purely a 100% European corporation — at most, they mention they're primarily in Iceland and Norway, which is true. I choose Vivaldi knowing this fact and the company's transparency. They're not running public relations trying to hide this. I and everyone else can make a clear and conscious choice to choose Vivaldi or not, depending on our personal preferences. Having said that, all mainstream web browsers currently rely on Gecko (Mozilla), Chromium/Blink (Google), and WebKit (Apple). So no matter what browser you pick, you're relying on a U.S. upstream provider. By comparison, Proton wants you to believe they're 100% European only. They seem to work very hard to push that narrative, despite their own documentation. Previously, when they could not control that narrative on Mastodon, they originally left the Fediverse. 1 of 2
