@_elena@mastodon.social FreeBSD is not hard to learn, especially if you're already familiar with other Unix-like systems. I spent a weekend in 2023 setting up FreeBSD on my laptop and porting all my dotfiles, and been using it as a daily driver ever since. From a developer's perspective, FreeBSD's source code, both kernel and userland, is generally simpler and more hackable than its Linux counterparts. And the maintainers are pleasant to work with - they are friendly and patient towards outside contributors.
