Revisited the 2018-Macbook-Pro-running-Debian project. The heat here made working on anything computer related rather unpleasant.... I tried installing Debian 13 once again and yet again, stuck at a GRUB prompt. This rather fantastic guide helped me to point it in the right direction: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/blog/blog/classic-sysadmin-how-to-rescue-a-non-booting-grub-2-on-linux Installed the t2linux custom kernel and packages. We now have a lovely stable system running Debian with GNOME (wouldn't be my first choice, but the stupidly high resolution screen means Wayland is the only practical option if you want to see anything). Added Dash to Panel extension to make it a little more user-friendly.

Other extensions so far have been ArcMenu, Ubuntu AppIndicators, and "Customise Clock on Lock Screen". Just need to find something for temperature monitoring (typical for an apple product, this MacBook runs fairly hot) and we'll be set up just right.
