1/ English often uses a Germanic word for an animal and a French word for its meat:
• beef (French: bœuf) vs. cow (German: Kuh), ox (German: Ochse)
• pork (porc) vs. pig, swine (Schwein), sow (Sau)
• veal (veau) vs. calf (Kalb)
• mutton (mouton) vs. sheep (Schaf)
• poultry (poulet) vs. chicken (Küken), hen (Henne)
