Now they're looking at requiring apps to implement a curfew between 12am and 6am for 16 and 17 year olds in the uk? Infinite scroll disabled, and other "addictive" features. Apparently you can just opt out of it too? Firstly, a curfew is just draconian, weird and fails to leave room for legitimately helpful behaviours, like talking to a friend when you're dealing with some issues. A lot of folk don't swap mobile numbers these days and I don't think a change like this will encourage that until the person already needs it. I've also heard folk take pictures of their attacker/someone-suspected-of-stalking on snapchat. Second, limiting addictive features is an excellent idea.... that should also be available to adults.... Because we just recognised them as harmful right? Honestly, just outright ban them, thanks. Third, you can opt out? Talk about toothless. Why even bother to compel these companies. I'd just have a popup screen that says "you cannot view this feed because it contains addictive features. To view please disable safeview™ settings [disable all] [close app]" because it is by far the cheapest way to comply - or something like it.
