@gallais@mamot.fr Regarding ecological uses, I can't access the paper you are referring to, but there really are legitimate uses of machine learning in the area of satellite photography, etc.

  • @jonmsterling@mathstodon.xyz I think there’s something relevant to highlight here. Inside artificial intelligence there are a multitude of approaches. Using imprecise terms muddles the discourse. Exampel: ”[Image recognition] helps find cancer, so [generative pre-trained transforms] producing disinformation is ok.” Its’s unfortunately common to replace both terms in brackets above with ”artificial intelligence”. The argument (incorrectly) assumes you can’t have one without the other.
