@ori The example often given is, the atom bomb can only be created in a society that believes in its use. Another such society, constructed a different way, may not desire to make such a thing.
I believe it is only through capitalist means and ends that LLMs could ever be created in such a way that they do such extensive harm.
In a non-capitalist society, LLMs would have no value.

I disagree with the example -- the atom bomb is just an overly excited source of cheap, clean energy. If you have nuclear energy you have the H-bomb. You take the helpful technology that leads to abundance for humanity, and remove a few safeguards. Now you have a weapon of incredible destructive power. For me, the question is what the social (and, technical) safeguards could look like. It's a genuinely hard question. I don't have a good answer. CC: @OliviaVespera@spacey.space
