@RegularRaptor@mk.absturztau.be but yeah, I agree... I think a better version is that "history is taught by the elites" ? The ones with enough money to decide what gets said in school or published books get to say that "colonialism wasn't that bad" or "This isn't a genocide"

  • @gwenthefops@transfem.social Yeah, I'd say that this is much better. History is written by history writers. If they were from a select group of people, then those views will reflect that select group of people, and that doesn't even have to maliciously happen! We all have our biases, and if no one else confronts them, we don't see them. But, of course, with enough money and influence, you can select which biases get amplified, which is a whole another thing... I am reminded of whenever someone gets a donation from a political group, and go "but there were no strings attached, they did not write me or demand that I say anything. These are my own opinions!" However, receiving that donation indicates that that someone's views align with those of that group. It is a form of using money to push a set of ideas. Anyway, could rant more if you wish.
