I was listening to First Wave on Sirius XM this morning and the song "Hitsville UK" by The Clash came on. If you are familiar with the song, it has a female lead singer on it. I decided to look up who the singer on the song was and it sent me down a brief rabbit hole. The singer was Ellen Foley. My fellow olds may remember her as the short-haired public defender in the second season of Night Court. She would be replaced the next season by Markie Post who remained on the show for the remainder of the series. Now, I knew that Ellen Foley did have a singing career. She is best known as the female singer in Meatloaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light." But I had no idea about her ties to The Clash. She sang on two Clash songs (and one unreleased song). She also sang backup on some of their other hits. In addition to this, all members of The Clash played on one of her solo albums which was produced by Mick Jones. Lastly (and this blew my mind) the song "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" is about her relationship with Mick Jones. The more you know. 🌠
