Apparently my talk at #emfcamp was read as transphobic.
I'm sorry. This was not my intention.
What I meant by saying "trans is somewhat a new thing" is: the term "trans" wasn't widely used until the late 90s.
Trans people have been around for ever - but for a long time there were no good terms to use.
This is what I meant by Fricker's "epistemic injustice". It was injustice not having good terms.

Not having words to describe yourself makes people "invisible" and therefore "new" when they "show up" in general debate. They are not new. But people like Marsha P Johnson never got around to use "trans" for themselves. The word wasn't around - so she used to claim to be a drag queen as it was the best term at that time. #emfcamp
