My aging dog is having an upset stomach more frequently... Which means she starts feeling hork-ey around the same time I want to go to sleep... And we have now had two incidents this month were I am about to finally doze off but am woken up by the sound of her retching and the adrenaline rush makes it so I won't fall asleep for the next 4 hours and that's only if I dose myself with melatonin and Benadryl... 4 hours where I am grumpy and hateful and she can sense it.

She's started sleeping on the couch more frequently because she can no longer jump into the bed and also she's smart and realizes that her throwing up on the bed (or the puppy pad I manage to yank her over before she finally pukes so I don't have to replace the sheets) pisses me off for the next 24-48 hours because my neurodivergent superpower is letting any semblance of patience or empathy leave my body if I am not allowed to sleep. I feel like it's probably for the best.
