It really is a trip to discover all the sensory changes a person goes through with hrt. And it happens with testosterone as well. I’ve had extended interactions with a decent number of trans folks from before they started to a couple of years in, and there’s always this tipping point where scent changes noticeably. Even when I was still smoking, I could pick it up. I did notice that the shift hit my detection sooner for trans men. Not sure if that’s because testosterone works faster in that regard, or if the scents caused in trans women are just subtler at first, but it’s a cool thing to be around

  • i suspect the source of the smell being bacteria is what makes it different. like going from testosterone to estrogen you need to wait for the man smell bacteria to die out, whereas going from estrogen to testosterone it will have a big bloom and start smelling quickly, or something like that. i know for me it took a while for my scent to change, like 6 or 7 months of estrogen before i noticed anything. for a minute there i was worried i just wouldnt get the smell changes, but i definitely have them now.
