There's a thin but deep line between tech enthusiasts and tech grifters.
When new tech drops, enthusiasts ask: "How can this improve my workflow? How can it make what we do better?"
Grifters immediately ask: "How can I exploit this to make a quick buck?"
Making money from technology is normal and right. Brutally exploiting it is not.
When ChatGPT 3 launched - the first barely working LLM - my first thought was to understand if and how it could improve our lives. The grifters only saw a way to replace humans, "cut costs", and "boost productivity". Even back then, when the results were honestly terrible.
Let's build and use technology out of passion, and make a living doing it. But let's not destroy human lives in the name of pure, relentless greed.
