The Kikusui-boko (菊水鉾) is named after a local spring called 'Kikusui-i' (菊水井 'Chrysanthemum Water Well') and the Chinese story of Kikujidō (菊慈童 the 'Chrysanthemum Boy').
An exiled favourite of the emperor, Kikujidō lived for 700 years by drinking dew from chrysanthemums.
