They worked hard to tailor ad campaigns to their target audience in pleasing and attractive ways. Hell, some jingles from those times are culturally significant! When the Internet came along, it continued to be that way for a time, until men of lesser talent realized that quantity has a money earning potential as great as quality and they now had the medium that would support the wholesale enshittification of a once honorable profession. Thanks Google.

They re-ordered the industry around mistrust and required surveillance of viewers as the remedy. Ghouls from all other sectors were thrilled by adtech's success, and so here we are.
