If I can't trust that the #Linux kernel won't be slop-free, looks like it's time to consider #BSD for the first time in three decades or so.
Therefore, I'm going to need some input.
Advice on which BSD for desktop use.
Will I be screwed in terms of gaming (my laptop has a 5070) via Steam/wine/Proton?

OpenBSD has no wine, NetBSD's wine is an old version (5.0), so you should look at FreeBSD. Also only FreeBSD has drivers for new Nvidia cards CC: @underseamonkey@fosstodon.org
