Standard journalism etiquette is to humanize stories so the reader can connect more easily.
It’s one of the reasons local news channels interview random people for quotes, or why they pull random twitter posts to include from people for random commentary about something.
Also not sure how you never noticed that almost every story about someone dying in an unusual way includes their photo. That’s basically standard regardless of the situation or genders.

I’ve noticed the opposite, that suicide often doesn’t include photos of the deceased. That’s in following journalistic guidelines where I live.

Suicides don’t usually get coverage like this at all.
