Re-wetting drained peatlands restores their carbon-capture ability but eliminates their value as cropland. Installing solar panels provides a substitute income. Monitoring of bird calls showed that bird biodiversity subsequently increased, and included not just peatland species but also other species that benefit from the presence of the solar panels.
