The decorated floats and otherworldly festival music is not simply a form of entertainment for the gods.
It's believed that malevolent spirits, the cause of disease, misfortune and other disasters, are drawn to the floats during the parade.

After the procession the now 'possessed' floats are quickly dismantled, the spirits thus extinguished for another year, and the city protected once more.
