The makeup air system could have a little room air, as a treat, so that the lab is at negative pressure. The biology lab (basically a coat closet with a laminar flow hood inside) has the exact opposite requirements. It will house (be?) a vertical laminar flow hood. In this case, it probably makes sense to circulate the air inside the room as much as possible so as to lengthen the life of the HEPA filters.
