One reason we see the same thing in different time periods is replication. E.g., cats, or Catholicism. There's a line of descent.
Another reason is that similar situations allow the same thing to arise separately at different times. Like raindrops or canyons or stars.
It seems to me that the revival of fascism isn't the first. American fascists mostly aren't the grandchildren and children of OG fascists. I thus expect that fascism has to be in the second category.
Assuming that's right, what are the situations, the conditions, in which people reinvent fascism? What allows and causes it to recur?

@williampietri@sfba.social A belief in one's cultural exceptionalism, combined with the reality of one's economic and/or social insignificance, writ large? When a group of people believe they are awesome, but no one respects them, because they are in reality ignorant dogshit racist imperialists, they get really belligerent, and double down on their racism and imperialism. They prove they are really good at one thing: marching, shooting, bombing, raping, and pillaging. I don't know; only guessing.
