Saw the new minions movie, it was an absolute fever dream of an experience. I'm going to try to describe to you the good and bad points of it and im going to sound absolutely unhinged but here goes: It absolutely is a love letter to old Hollywood and the medium of cinema from the director. Some of the best parts of the movie were when it actually became meta referential and slyly made fun of the breakout success of the minions as a concept in the real world. The worst part was the villain, who I can only describe as South Park Cthulhu. I absolutely understand why Gen z might not like this movie because, like, do they understand references to orson Welles? Georges Méliès? The day the earth stood still? The slapstick humor is all very well done but I feel like the movie isn't going to make sense if you don't recognize how nearly every scene is in some way a reference to classic cinema. As an adult who can appreciate those aspects of it though I really did think it was good fun. Kids are going to probably like the original minions movie more though
