The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) says Network Rail improved efficiency and helped reduce passenger and freight train cancellations across Great #Britain in the year to March 2026, while punctuality remained broadly stable. Network Rail exceeded its annual efficiency target, delivering £614 million in savings, and is forecast to exceed its five-year target. However, high inflation has forced the company to scale back planned renewals of tracks, bridges and other #infrastructure in England and Wales to 83% of its original plan. ORR said Network Rail must provide stronger evidence that reduced renewals will not undermine the long-term condition, safety and performance of the ageing railway. In #Scotland, renewals remain on track despite inflation, with cancellations falling, although future performance targets are considered at risk.
