The #Transport Department (TD) has approved a pilot licence for an autonomous vehicle (AV) trial between Hong Kong Science Park and MTR University Station under the Road Traffic (Autonomous Vehicles) Regulation. Two 12-seat autonomous light #buses will operate on a set route linking the two locations, with a backup operator on board at all times and pilot AV labels displayed. Funded by the Smart Traffic Fund, the trial will assess the vehicles' performance in complex road conditions, including roundabouts and a public transport interchange, while gathering data to support future development. The #Government said road safety remains its priority and that findings will help refine technical standards, regulations and future AV deployment.
