🚈🇩🇪 Berlin’s new 50-metre Urbanliner tram has entered passenger service on the city’s busiest #tram route, the M4, following final trials and infrastructure upgrades near Alexanderplatz. Operated by BVG and built by Alstom, the tram carries more than 300 passengers, increasing capacity while improving comfort and accessibility. Features include flexible seating, larger multi-purpose areas for wheelchairs and pushchairs, enhanced lighting, camera-based rear-view systems replacing mirrors, obstacle detection #technology and step-free boarding improvements. The first 15 trams are due to be in service by the end of 2026, with 65 on order for delivery by 2030. The Urbanliner replaces older double-tram sets on the M4 and forms part of BVG’s wider programme to modernise Berlin’s public #transport network and meet growing passenger demand.
