A little note to all those choking on wildfire soot.
A 20" box fan, a 20"x20" by 1" thick furnace filter held on by ducktape or a couple of bungee cords, does a decent job of clearing air of smoke (and disease).
I have 3 such fans running in the house. Electricity draw is low. It's not a HEPA filter, but furnace filters on fans are inexpensive and do a good job.
For inexpensive filters I use these guys. They are about $7/filter and quality is good.
