Remembers Hyperloop? High speed trains in low pressure tubes. Didn't violate any physical laws, promised speeds of 1000+km/h. There was so much excitement, test tracks where built, multiple companies started. Venture capital, universities, all got involved.
A small number of people argued against it, pointing out that it could be destroyed in moments, the engineering wasn't close, it was massively costly and impractical. This is about space data centers.
