@godfat@mastodon.social "flattening" is a strange concept that you can tell exists mostly as an excuse to justify evil things. a flatter organisation does not imply a leaner organisation. you can consolidate managerial layers in a way that flattens the tree while keeping the same number of nodes. a layoff activity and a flattening activity are separate things. "we have 7 layers" is a really opaque term. where do your layers start and where do they end? ive seen places that have like, super junior engineers who aren't necessarily /hierarchically/ junior to the "higher" pay grade.
