@maaikees I often use the story of the STB libraries to illustrate this, but usually as an argument for FOSS rather than anti-LLM. Sean Barrett worked at game companies, writing performance-critical code in C that needed to not crash on people's PCs. He tells the stories about how everyone would just write libraries to solve problems that C left to the programmer, and then they'd have to re-write them from memory at the next games company where they worked because the code was the property of their old employer. They'd lose time debugging the things, which was wasted as they often had done this debugging twice before! So Barrett sat down on his own and wrote a bunch of the things he'd done in the past, and then just to ensure that they had the least friction whatsoever he put them out in the public domain. Like, HERE, now we can ALL stop rewriting this stuff! He's even done contracting work where things like his codec libraries ended up being part of the collection as part of the contract. He got paid less, but then he had access to the library afterward for when he needed it. And so do we! https://github.com/r-lyeh/single_file_libs
