fwiw the current wip build of my compositor does software rendering only (wl_shm buffer composited on the cpu), and all gtk programs i've tested worked fine
so at least so far it's still a thing to not need a gpu, unless gtk is rendering on the gpu and copying the buffer to main memory which would be uhhh why?? but also not a problem with wayland

@navi@social.vlhl.dev @datenwolf@chaos.social @miah@hachyderm.io @neal@social.gompa.me The direction I was saying I don't accept is that we all run Intel or ARM SoCs with GPUs full of backdoor negative rings and all sorts of unknown hardware vulnerabilities that make hard security boundaries impossible and that are headed in the direction of taking away more and more control over what you can run and how you can run it. I want a world where you can actually run a working system on a core you designed yourself and sent off to low-volume fab or eventually fabbed on your own garage.
