Inspired by mention by a music industry professional that someone listening to a new-to-them album a day is an admirable feat, I'm curious: how many new-to-you albums do you listen to a day, on average?

@buffyleigh@mas.to This is an interesting question, because up until recently listening to a new album every day would have been financially prohibitive for most people. But now it is quite possible with music streaming & things like bandcamp with free play-throughs, if you want to check someone out you can listen to the full album. Even if you never listen to it again. But the radio-like approach to discovering music in a mix of individual tracks is I think still a more dominant paradigm, even with streaming? (As for myself: since Covid I can't deal with background music while I'm doing something else, so I don't actually listen to a lot of recorded music, new or familiar. And I've never had a Spotify or similar subscription. I check out tracks from new-to-me bands when I'm building my events calendars, but I don't often listen to a full album's worth even when they're available on Bandcamp. So I'm probably averaging about 2 new full albums per year, on CDs from bands I already know & like. 🤷🏻‍♀️)
