Their market dominance has always been due to anti-competitive, monopolistic business practices. And since most of our corporate master (oops, I mean employers) think in the same terms, they don't recognize the problems with Microsoft software or its business practices. I have been using computers for 30+ years and one thing I have found to be true is that the more software costs, the worse it is.
