@NatureMC@mastodon.online @hfalcke@mastodon.social I'd counted that in the second point (what happens when you factor in externalities?), but it's worth calling out explicitly: there are a lot of costs that vendors of these things are simply not paying, they're being indirectly subsidised for. Take those subsidies away and the prices go up a lot. Make them pay enough for the water and electricity that they consume to be able to fix the damage that they're causing and you'll see them become unaffordable very quickly.
