Fjaðrárgljúfur, a massive, steep-walled canyon located in South Iceland. It was carved out roughly 9,000 years ago during the last Ice Age as glacial meltwater eroded the soft volcanic bedrock. #geography #geology #nature #photo #moss

@tangledwing@ohai.social Beautiful photo! It was carved by glacial meltwater, but I doubt the volcanic bedrock was soft, it is very powerful and erodes strong rocks.
