I think the reason you can't use just the super key to open the 'start menu' is that it is reserved to be used in other keyboard shortcuts along with other keys. When searching here's what I found: > Note: Assigning the Super key alone to the menu may disable its use as a modifier for other window manager shortcuts (like window snapping). And I do have it set up to be used with window snapping (super + numpad key). Here's a video that shows a bit of what I've done to customize:
