It has been 10 years of having to remember to take the charging cable with me, even on weekend trips. 10 years of increasingly limited value — the weather widget is so slow that it’s faster to take my phone out. The sports functionality has been useless to me. The occasional Shazam without pulling my phone out, lower friction on purchases, that’s about it. Even in its broken state I can’t see a reason to buy another smart watch as a replacement.

So a couple of weeks ago I tried seeing what I would miss if I replaced it with this thing. Good old basic Casio, it tells the time, tracks the date, and has a light! I did not even have to buy it, I got it on one of my trips to have a watch I could run and swim with without worrying about damage. Turns out that not only I don’t miss much, but also really appreciate and enjoy a watch that is lighter, does not require daily charging, and is likely to survive a drop with terminal velocity.
