For anyone that has ever worked as a security guard/surveillance operator, how do you react when someone waving at the camera?

Security at a busy shopping center for the last 5 years. When it does happen, it’s almost always teenagers. We don’t do anything about it. Not sure what we would do. Obviously, if there is context like someone is laying on the floor, visible injuries, or it’s after-hours, we would check it out. Just some random person walking by and waving at the camera? Not suspicious by itself and does not even register on my list of priorities.

I worked at a high security facility where the cameras could be moved by the guards. I always waved, and every now and then, the camera would “nod” back. Super cute!

Just asked my brother who works at a security contractor and he said it’s rather rare and mostly in spots like banks.

Shouldn’t that happen all the time? At least I always wave at security cameras.

Typically I didn’t. As long as the person has not crossed that line that says I have to take action then I did nothing. Hell 90% of the time I didn’t even absorb what was on the screens in front of me.
