Yup, I used to check the signature / hash for GOG installers in windows. I’ll have to look into how to do it in linux.
I’ll look into qemu/kvm. Virt-manager rings a bell. Thanks, I’ll look into all of that.
Do you have any site recommendations for clean steam / gog files?

For steam I already told in the previous comment, cs.rin.ru (you need an account to access the clean files threads) or download them directly with DepotDownloader (you need legit manifest files). I am not supposed to help you find the manifests, if it becomes too easy, valve will eventually take action. But… there might or might not exist a modded DepotDownloader that decrypts non-legit manifests, and there might be some Chinese tool that generates manifests. For gog unfortunately not anymore. Check the r/piracy megathread
