Years ago a friend's Jeep Cherokee was having issues and it let him sit about an hour away from home, but I was able to figure out that the engine only shut off if you stepped off the throttle, so we went to the parking lot where it was and I used my forklift driving skills to keep the gas pedal feathered even at red lights while my left foot was on the brake (I have no idea how this worked, it was an automatic).
