The boat was flying a small Ukrainian flag in the mast, but it was registered in Germany and obviously had a German ensign.

@anderspuck@mastodon.social @svuorela@helvede.net @osma@mas.to According to the book, it had to be deep enough so that the break would not be easy to repair, but less than 100 m for them to be able to reach the pipeline. It was something like 80 m? In the book there was no mention of an Ukrainian flag. The people on board reportedly presented fake Bulgarian and Rumanian IDs when Polish police controlled them in Kołobrzeg, if I remember correctly. There is a lot of obfuscation in the book, but the story seems generally consistent.
