@ultranurd@tacobelllabs.net years ago (kindof forced by long unpredictable public transit commute and one coffee shop within walk to sometimes still-locked office) I just started getting my coffee and asking someone if it would be alright if I sat there. Probably 4/5 times was a yes, 1/5 they’d pack up and leave, or reply they were saving the seats (at which point I’d ask another table with parked solo person).

@ultranurd@tacobelllabs.net I think asking before all tables are full just isn’t a cultural muscle (anymore?). There’s a coffee chain in Northern California that has done really well to fix this — they’ve started adding long communal tables with power in the middle. Draws all the solo computer-users to that table and keeps two and four tops clearer.

@alexisw@xoxo.zone I think some of it is Seattle Freeze, to not want to ask (on all sides)
