A helpful friendpointed out importance of needing both hands back on handlebars promptly, to better control bike. We do signal initially, of course. Also make extra effort to get attn of drivers while waiting for light to change, which helps! ("Be visible & predictable.”) We don’t worry if anyone thinks our added hand motions (i.e., pointing straight to indicate that will be our direction when light changes) silly or unnecessary— Better to be looked over than overlooked! In our experience, drivers understand&respect (i.e., let us proceed straight thru intersection before they turn, as legally required). We’re also sold on SLOWING hand signal— really gets most drivers to slow incl if passing us.
