@stigcq@mstdn.dk yes, but I am specifically talking about the technical term many people use (included the wiki link for the avoidance of doubt 🤓), not the experience of connecting with other people using digital means. But it is indeed this conflation (the perception versus how it is achieved) that is a key factor behind the success of platforms like facebook etc. Most people don't really care how the "connection" experience is achieved. Big mistake.
