I note that my Mastodon timeline is once again being overrun with anti-AI fundamentalism. Now when this happens, I will not stay silent, but will instead post a link to an article I took a long time to write, which acknowledges the many real ethical, societal, and technological challenges, while also highlighting the tremendous good it is doing for blind people like me. I refuse to remain silent and have these benefits excluded from the conversation. https://mosen.org/ai/

@JonathanMosen@caneandable.social I've unfollowed a few people because of this. So sad. I know there are concerns, but overall I love AI. I used it to write my mastodon client and it really did a nice job. I'm a programmer so looked at the code to see what it was doing. Thanks for the article.

@JonathanMosen@caneandable.social People can talk all they want — the work goes on. A friend of mine, a sailing enthusiast, came up with the idea for a system that would allow a blind person to steer a boat or even a ship. The hardware has already been built and it works. Some grant funding was secured for that part, but there was not enough money left to develop the mobile apps. I am now building two fully native apps, one for iOS and one for Android, while testing them alongside the hardware prototype. This is going to be something special. It will probably make only a small group of enthusiasts happy, but it feels great to work on something that can help make someone’s dreams come true.
